Our Road Trip ended in Arizona, where we visited “Grand Canyon“, the “Painted Desert” and the “Sunset Crater Volcano” in Flagstaff. I already had discovered those places two years ago, but each time it is breathtaking for me.
And yet, you can ask around me, I am not what you would call a “Nature lover”.
The most impressive is of course Grand Canyon. If you travel through the Western half of the USA, I highly recommend you to take the time to go there (it is about 8 hours driving from the Coast). I sincerely think I never saw such a great scene.
Under the rain, which took us by surprise, it is even more beautiful:
Then, we made a quick stop at Flagstaff, to visit the Sunset Crater Volcano.
When I was a kid, I was terrified by volcanos (melting in lava was the worst way to die to me!), and I gotta confess that I was not 100% confident, walking in this forest of dry lava, by this huge volcano. Ridiculous, I know…
To end this Road Trip, we drove to the “Petrified Forest National Park”.
Surprise, it does not look at all like a forest (I remember driving around, looking for actual trees 🙂 ). It’s a large concentration of petrified wood, (trees who turned into fossils under the silicium deposits brought by the Flagstaff volcano).
Right next to this park, you can find the amazing “Painted Desert“, a beautiful landscape of stratified layers of rocks.
I hope this post encouraged you to go visit those places…now back to California, and very soon Paris!
